Australian actress Rachael Carpani — best known for appearing in NCIS: Los Angeles and Australian drama McLeod’s Daughters — has died at the age of 45.
Carpani had been battling a chronic illness, her sister Georgia said in an Instagram post on Monday.
“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday 7th December,” the family statement read.
“The funeral will be a private event, to be held on Friday 19th December with close family and friends.”
The statement added, “The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements.”
Deadline reported that she was hospitalized in 2021 with abdominal pain and required surgery for an undisclosed illness.
The Aussie has several acting credits, including a role in the 2020 Ben Affleck film The Way Back, roles in the TV shows NCIS: Los Angeles and The Glades, and a lead role in the Lifetime TV series Against the Wall.
Her most memorable role was playing Jodi Fountain on the Australian soap opera McLeod’s Daughters for nearly 180 episodes when it aired from 2001 to 2009.
Shocked fans left comments under another Instagram photo of Georgia and Rachael from September 2024.
“Condolences to your family. I loved your sister Rachael on Mcleod’s Daughter’s. She was too young and so beautiful. Life is so unfair sometimes,” one person wrote.
Another added, “I am so incredibly saddened to learn of your darling sister’s passing. I am so sorry. I grew up watching & wanting to be her. Sending much love and enveloping hugs to your family.”
